Azusa Redevelopment Concept: The Azusa Art Colony

I have been driving up Alameda lately and noticed that it is a pretty run down area with frequent police activity around the several blocks of that area. It is nice to see that our police force is on the job but it just seems like it would be a tough area to live in and it is so unnecessary for people to have to live like that. There has to be something that we can do to attempt to improve the quality of peoples lives there.

In addition, the first thing people see when they get off the 210 freeway Azusa exit is ugly Alameda. It is just sad that is what represents the first thing people see when they come to this city.

I have an idea to redevelop just one block North of the 210 exit on Alameda. If we can redevelop the one block, it will encourage the other properties in the area to take better care of theirs and the idea will help encourage the entire city to get more involved in the arts. Lets teach people to express themselves through art instead of violence. I think that we should call the area between 1st and 2nd on Alameda "The Azusa Art Colony." Then we should find a developer that would be interested in seeing if the owners of the properties would be interested in selling so that the block could be redeveloped into fairly priced Artist lofts, with the first floor offering space for artists to create galleries and to create their work and the 2nd floor providing living space for them. This would not only improve the block and the area around it, it would help to improve the image of the city. We could have a small sign at the beginning of the block to let people know that is what it is. The area that I'm talking about is in green:
